What is the setting of the story?
Answer: A slave plantation called Carterís Grove near Williamsburg.

 How did the big house look compared to the slaveís homes?
Answer: The big house had fine brick exterior and elegant interior. The slavesí homes were built of logs or wooden boards. Most of them were one or two room houses, with dirt or wooden floors.

What happened to children between the ages of 5-7?
The masterís children began the education and training needed to manage the plantation, and the slave children were given jobs in the fields or the house, training for the work theyíd do in the future.
