1.  Why did mama scold Christopher-John for eating the cornbread in the middle of the night?  Pg.5  Answer:  They were going through the depression and times were hard.  There was not much money for food and there was only enough food for the to eat when they were hungry.
2.  Why did Stacey think of himself as man of the house?  Pgs.9-10  Answer:  He was the oldest son and his father was away in Louisiana laying tracks on the railroad for money to feed them.  His mother had told the other children to mind him.
3.  What do you think will happen when Stacey returns with Papa?  Pg.30 Answer:  He will bring money home and save the trees from being cut.
4.  When the children were in the forest what did they find?
