1. "On Monday the front-page story was about a nineteen-year-old boy who had robbed a telegraph office because he wanted to be arrested. He knew he would get something to eat in jail."  I chose this passage because it is informative about what is really going on during the Great Depression. Why do you think it is so important for the author to describe some real events during the Great Depression? Because it is important to know what is going on so you can understand the characters. "I bought the apples from an unemployed man I passed on my way home."  I chose this passage because it showed more about what Dad was thinking and that the son didn't see him as an unemployed man.  Why do you think dad thought selling apples wasn't really a job?  Because he use to have a really great job and is hoping to get it back soon.
