1. "Shakespeare's a Whiteman, they argued." I chose this passage because it shows some of the difficulties colored people have during this time period.  Why do you think the author decided to argue this statement in this story?  Because during the Great Depression and slavery was still a big in the south during the Thirties.  Even though this story was set in the North it was still a big deal. "She reached inside her pocket and took aut a rose.  A red, red rose."  I chose this passage because it is reflective of this families good times when eveybody was a dreamer.  Why do you think it was so important for Mama to start dreaming again? Because the author thinks you have to have dreams to succeed in the world and be happy. (reflective) pg. 36
