Create a character map of Samuel
Samuel's traits are that he is a hard worker and a philosopher.
Page 2 describes the rigorous work that he performs, ìOur day began
at sunrise and ended when the light faded. We ground wheat to make
bread at the mill.î He is a thinker because he questions what freedom
would be like for slaves, and wonders what it be like to go where ever
he wanted.î
Samuel's problem is that he is a slave, and is forced to do work.
Samuel's goal is to experience freedom some day.
We are not sure at this point what his solution , but he is curious about is possible role in the war, ìWhat was it, I wondered, that made people think they could change lives?î (p.8, par. 4).
