Although this unit is literature based, it also lends itself to teaching Social Studies.  The lives of slaves and the underground railroad are the main focuses of this unit.  During the unit, students will do research on the different aspects of slavery and information from the historical literature and lit. circle roles (especially investigator) will be discussed in social studies.
