I chose this passage because it has figurative language, using a simile.  The wooden barrels Harriet lifts are referred to as paper.

I chose this passage because it is intriguing.  Harriet is planning her escape and she must keep it a secret and she can't say good-bye to any of her family.

Why do you think it is so important for Harriet's escape to be kept a secret?

Answer: Because the punishment for slaves who are caught running away is very severe.
