Children in Slavery

Section 6: "Wanted Dead or Alive"
(Pages 39-60)

1. "Harriet could not....who helped them."
Pg. 47 Par. 2

I chose this passage because there is an element of fear.  There was a slave that wanted to turn back and Harriet knew that this would be way too dangerous.

What will Harriet do to keep the slave from turning back?

Harriet holds a gun to his head and made him push on.

2. "Late that evening.....happened to them."
Pg. 55 Par. 4

I chose this passage because Old Rit is confused because her children always spend Christmas with her.

How do you think Harriet felt when she saw her mother looking so sad? Why?

Harriet felt like it was partly her fault for her mother's pain.  She wanted so badly to go and see her mother or even take them with her but she knew that was impossible.
