Children in Slavery



Hmong Child:

-Reading aloud
-Pre taped reading
-Picture sorts
-Prereading of material before class reads
-Test to assess reading level
-Echo reading
-Work with ESL teacher to incorporate readings
-Have word wizard child cut or draw pictures for words
-Child keeps a vocabulary notebook of terms with pictures

ADHD Child:

-Ignore when out of seat
-Have frequent movement activities (stretching for entire class)
-Buddy system
-Stand up instead of raising hands for questions (entire class)
-Make child aware of daily schedule
-Read tests aloud
-High level reading groups to keep child on task
-Give individualized instruction

Latino/Latina Child:

-Test to assess reading level
-Use written language while incorporating symbols
-Prereading
-Read aloud
-Echo reading
-Pre taped reading
-Draw or cut pictures for word wizard role
-Keep vocabulary journal with pictures and words
-Put child in low reading group while frequently testing for improvement
-Work with ESL teacher for prereading and incorporating your books into their lessons
