Our literature circle unit's focus is the Salem Witch Trials. In this unit we planned for three different reading level groups: one book on fifth grade level- The Witch of Blackbird Pond, one book below fifth grade level- The Wicked Witch is at it Again, and four books which were two grade levels below-Witch Hunt and Strega Nona. This unit last a total of eighteen days of in class work. The first day of the unit we planned for a video which introduces the students to the witch trials. The next sixteen days will be used for literature circles. Our books are divided into eight sections. The first day of each section the students will read their assigned pages and will plan for their role. The second day of each section will be used for discussion of their roles. This sequence will go on through all eight sections. On the last day of the unit the students will be reenacting a scene from the book The Witch of Blackbird Pond.Introduction
