Lesson: Life Cycle of a Butterfly Training Instructors of English as a Second Language Testing Research |
Artifact: Testing
Research This artifact focuses on my own investigation of
formal and informal assessment tools. The pieces found within this artifact
are both projects that led to discovery and reactions to what I read about
assessments.
Context: The items found in this artifact are a compilation of some of my work I completed in the ASU graduate course, Classroom Assessment. This course was designed for teachers, and it stresses the construction and use of teacher-made tests; however, we also examined high stakes tests such as End-of-Grade tests since they are of major concern in our public schools today. I included, in my artifact, two of the projects I undertook in this course and three journal reactions in which I reflected on my own thoughts of some of these assessments. Impact: Although this artifact is not specifically aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study, it does impact the students I teach. I believe that I must be knowledgeable about the assessment tools and procedures we use in our schools. With this knowledge, I can better understand the reliability and validity of the test scores, and I can determine how much weight I should put on certain assessment tools. Students, in turn, benefit from instructional planning that is based on the assessments used. Alignment: This artifact, focusing on what I have learned about tests and testing, is aligned with INTASC Standard 8. My projects and reactions to findings I have recorded demonstrate my understanding and uses of formal and informal assessment strategies for the development of the students.
