Lesson: Life Cycle of a Butterfly Training Instructors of English as a Second Language Professional Growth |
Artifact: Professional
Growth This artifact focuses on the areas of work for which
I have been recognized in my last two of years of teaching as well
as one area of study that I am continuing to investigate after graduate
school ends.
Context: This artifact has two components that give information concerning what I have accomplished as reading teacher in the NC public school system. Some of the awards were included in the artifact, School Grants. All of the awards were received during the past two years while I was a part-time graduate student in the College of Education at ASU. I have included these recognitions in my telefolio because I believe my graduate degree had an enormous influence on my success as a reading teacher, and the graduate studies have been a major part of my professional growth plan. Impact: Although, not specifically aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study, the honors and awards I have received have definitely impacted my students. I believe it is because of my concern and effectiveness of a teacher that I received the Burke County Teacher of the Year Award. My success has been contagious as it has created a synergism in my classroom to try to succeed in all we do. The opportunity to represent my county at the International Reading Conference in San Diego gave me additional knowledge and ideas for the instruction of reading. My students were impacted by this as I returned from the conference and implemented many of the teaching practices and instructional ideas in my reading classroom. The continued search for new methods that will improve my students learning is never-ending. Alignment: My desire to continually seek
opportunities to grow professionally and to constantly evaluate my choices
that extend outside my classroom are evidence of my professional commitment
and responsibility as outlined in INTASC Standard
9.
