• After the model lesson, you should have an understanding of how to guide students through the reading, introduce elements of story, and learning logs or response journals.

• AFter reading Sarah Stewqrt and David Small’s book The Gardener, you are invited to create strategies involving narrative literature in which you have participated as a learner.

• You will design each of the following for The Gardener:

• Complete a DRTA
• Include pre-reading questions (activate prior knowledge and build interest)
• Include at least 3 appropriate stops
• Include a variety of questions: some literal-level, higher-level thinking, and prediction
• Include culminating questions that focus on larger thematic issues

• Complete a Story Map Illustration: Include at least 6 illustrated (artistically represented) frames. Each frame will include one of the following:
• Setting: Time, Place, and Environment-weather, noise level, darkness, etc.
• Characters and traits
• Conflict (Problem)
• Important Events
• Resolution (Solution)
• Theme

• Learning Log/Response Journal (Write only the Prompt)
