PORTRAIT POEM

Just because I’m Irish

Doesn’t mean I have red hair and freckles

Doesn’t mean I’m a “fighting Irish”

And doesn’t mean I’ve got a temper.

Just because I’m Irish

Doesn’t mean I drink too much

Doesn’t mean I believe in leprechauns

Doesn’t mean I’m Catholic.

Just because I’m Irish

Doesn’t mean I go crazy on Saint Pat’s Day

Doesn’t mean I hate the English

Doesn’t mean I speak with a brogue.

Haven’t all the borders been erased?

Isn’t the Atlantic just a 7-hour journey?

Don’t we all travel the same “super highway”?

So what’s the big deal?

We are all a conglomeration of the same DNA.
