Corporate Sponsorship

At first glance, the presence of corporate sponsorship at Bethel School is not visibly apparent.  Yet after delving deeper into the school environment, all sorts of examples surfaced.  The following are some of the artifacts that were recorded.

The following images are located on the walls of the computer lab at Bethel.  This room is a high traffic area because students visit the room at least once a week.  These persuasive images plastered all over the wall either conciously or subconciously impact student's viewpoints.

*Featured above are donated posters of Jackie Joyner Kersey, a baseball player for Sports Illustrated, Harry Potter and two basketball players for ASU.

*Star Wars, the Power Puff Girls (a cartoon featuring three girls who are freedom fighters in their own world) and Garfield promote reading and computer learning.

*The Volvo above depicts the image of speed and style, and the pencils were found in the computer lab pencil holder (including Pizza Hut, Hardees, Heinz, Wirsbo, and two fire departments in the area).

Tim Duncan, a player for the spurs, allows children to "measure up" to him.  Michael Jordan looks over Tim on the left, urging children to "reach for the top."

As we travel around the school more corporate messages infect the minds of children...

*These vending machines, placed in the lunchroom, tempt the students to drink them instead of the "provided" milk.  The lunchroom is the most visited room in the entire school.
The Coca Cola logo is found on the gym's scoreboard, another very high traffic area.
