General Survey Questions

• What do you want to be like when you grow up?
• Where did you get your ideas of what you want to be like?
• Do you see more women or men in that position?
• Is that position geared more towards women, men, or both?
• Are there certain toys that are more appropriate for girls or boys?  If yes, explain why and give an example.
• What are boys and girls like on TV?
• Are the boys and girls you know like the ones you see on TV?

• Hobby/Spare time activity?

In-depth Survey Questions

          1.  What do you want to be like when you grow up?  Why do you want to be that kind of person?  What is
           important about being that way (cool, rich, happy, smart)?  How will that help you in your life as an adult?

2. Where did you get your ideas of what you want to be like?  Do you see that kind of person on TV?  If so, give an example.  Is that the way you want to be or would you act differently?  Why?

3. Do you see more women or men doing what you would like to do?  Why do you think that is?  Has it always been that way?  Do you think it will ever change?  What kinds of things have made or could make it change?

4. Is there anything about the kind of person you want to be that makes it more for a man/woman?  Like what?  Do you think that men/women should be the only ones who are like the kind of person you want to be?  Why?

5. Have you ever bought a toy that you saw advertised on TV?  If so, what was it?  What made you want that toy?

6. Are there some toys that are made just for boys or just for girls?  Can you give me an example?  Why do you think this toy is supposed to be for girls/boys?  Would you ever buy or have you ever bought a toy that was only supposed to be for girls/boys?  Why?

7. Do you see boys and girls on TV?  What are girls like on TV?  What are boys like on TV?  Are the boys and girls you know like the ones you see on TV?  How are they alike?  How are they different?  If there is a similarity or difference, why is that?
