Individual schools with poverty rates above fifty percent may use Title One funds to operate a “school-wide program.”
This is funded by ESEA Title I, Part A.
Schools that have more than fifty percent of their population above the poverty line can offer a “targeted assistance program.” This program targets the students most likely the fail the States performance standards.
What kind of Title One grants does the federal government give states?
Basic grants, concentration grant and accountability grants
Basis grants provide extra money to local education agencies in which then need is at least two percent of the population.
Targeted grants give funding where at least five percent of the system is needy.
Concentration grants fund those schools where at least fifteen percent of the population is needy.
Local educational agencies are responsible for distributing the money but they follow criteria laid out by the federal government.
