END OF GRADE TESTING

Definition:   The end-of-grade tests are multiple-choice tests that measure the achievement of curricular objectives described in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. The tests and curricular objectives have a strong emphasis on the application of knowledge and skills. The curricular objectives measured by end-of-grade tests are closely aligned with national curriculum standards. End-of-grade tests are administered to all students in grades 3-8 within the final three weeks of school.

Definition of "at or above grade level":

The definition of "at or above grade level," as it applies to the performance standard of the ABCs Accountability Model, determines the percentage of students at or above grade level across the various content areas and grade levels in each school. The percentage of students at or above grade level in a school is determined by: computing the number and percentage of students at or above grade level in each of the content areas of reading, mathematics and writing; then adding up the numerators used to determine the percentages for the separate content areas; adding up the denominators used to determine the percentages for the separate content areas; and then calculating a new total percentage.
