Description of Activity:
The Modern Fashion and Invention
activity is designed to stimulate student's creativity. Students
will learn to work in small groups, manipulate computers, and learn the
functions of a digital camera. After developing an old object into
a new invention, the students will then show further creativity in creating
a marketing plan for their newest creation.
Materials:

A computer equipped with a word processing
program, as well as Photoshop and a web page editor, such as Netscape Composer

A box of random, rare objects that
students will probably not know the original function of

Digital camera
-
Zip disk or 3.5 inch floppy disk
Description for teacher:
The
teacher will divide the class into groups of 3 or 4. Prior to class,
make sure that the teacher has put enough rare objects into a box, that
each group in the class can have their own object to use. Once the
students are in their groups, have each group come to the box, one at a
time, and choose an object to use for their project. Once each group
has an object, have each group brainstorm possible names and functions
of that object. When each group accomplishes this task, have the
individual students of every group write a newspaper or magazine advertisement
promoting and selling their new invention. During this activity,
the members of each group should take pictures showing the functions of
the objects that they have reinvented. Once all of the students in
the class have created an advertisement and has a picture of their invention,
have them save both to a disk. The teacher will then take the saved
documents from all of the students and create a web page displaying all
of the objects and each student's advertisement for the class to view.
