Overview:
Students will work either in pairs or in groups. They will choose an everyday object from which they will "invent" a brand new use for.
The students will take pictures of their item in use. Then write a newspaper article advertising the product.
After they have done this, the students will compile pictures of their invention and the newspaper article into a web site for everyone's enjoyment!

Supplies Needed:
~ Large selection of everyday items

        ~ Digital Camera

        ~ Computer

~ Netscape Composer and Adobe Photoshop

~ Zip disk for each student

Directions:
        1. Place the students either in groups or in pairs, and allow each group to pick an everyday item from the items you pre-selected.

        2. While working with their partner(s), each group should come up with a creative new use for their item.

        3. After a new use is chosen, each group should take a picture of their item in use. Each member will need to save the pictures onto a disk of their own. (Adobe Photoshop can be used to edit their pictures.)

        4. Then each student should write a newspaper article either advertising or announcing the new invention.

        5. Once they have finished their article, the students should begin on creating their web page with Netscape Composer (Guidance may be necessary).

        6. After they have correctly placed their article on the web, give directions on importing pictures from their disk onto the site. Reminding them to save and back up their work periodically.

        7. Discuss with the students about Internet edict, reminding them to give credit where credit is due.

        8. Tell the students to include their e-mail address on their web page so that you and others can e-mail them feedback.

Assessment Suggestions:
There are many different ways you could assess this assignment. A few of them include: asking questions about how to do different things, such as: Tell me how I import pictures on to my site?; have students teach someone how to compile a web site; have students e-mail you five things that they learned how to do; etc.
