STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS

HAVE FUN WHILE DOING HOMEWORK        BECOME AN INVENTOR        USE YOUR IMAGINATION

Sound a bit weird? Read on.  You have just created this wonderful new invention and you need to make it available to the world.  Write a newspaper article introducing the following: the item, its inventor, what it does and where it can be found.  You can add more if you so choose.  Then you need to broadcast this to the world by placing this article on your own web page.  Remember be creative and have fun.

1.  First, pick an item from your teacher's collection.  (Any item, even if you do not know its real use.)

2.  Then think use your thinking caps to become an inventor.  Turn that item into something else.  (Example:  Object- a hat.  It cannot be used as a hat.  It can become a rain collector.)  What is it?  Who will use it?  How do you use it?  Who invented it?  What is its purpose?  What makes it special?

3.  After you have written that down, decide what kind of pictures you want to take of the object.  You MUST have one picture of the object AND one of the object in use.  Use the digital camera to take your pictures and save to your disk.  You may need someone to help you.

4.  Using Adobe Photo Shop,  resize and adjust your pictures.  Then SAVE the pictures under a new name.

5.  Using Word type up your newspaper article.  Use local newspapers provided by your teacher as a guide.  Be sure to SPELL CHECK and to PROOF READ  your work!  Make sure you include your responses to the questions above.  Here are a few suggestions to help you get started.  (Quotes from the inventor, or someone who has used the product.  Give a brief history of the inventor.  Explain how the product will improve society.  Describe the invention and how great it is, promote it.)  MAKE SURE YOU SAVE YOUR WORK!

6.  Then enter Netscape Navigator (Netscape Composer) and create your web page.  Paste your article and pictures onto your web page.  You may change the background, coloring and font to make your page more interesting.  SAVE EVERY FEW MINUTES!  If you do not you may loose some of your work.

7.  List any resources you used in your web site.

8.  If you are having trouble click on Example, for a completed article to use as a guide.

9.  Your finished product should include a print out of your web page.  It should include your article, your pictures, and your name. You should also include the disk, which your project is saved.

10.  Place an email link on your web page.  Create a link and for the link to page address type mailto:yourfullemailaddress

You will be graded on completion of the assignment, organization and fluency of the article, grammar, punctuation, and typing skills.
