GREETINGS
STUDENTS!
INVENTIONS
ARE ON THE LOOSE!
Boris the
Brain has a task for you students!
What does
he want you to do?
www.dla.mil/dcia/dciaofc.htm
-
Select an object
from the gadget box that your teacher has for you in front of the room.
Time to get crafty and inventive! Your task is to find a new use
for the object that your group has chosen. Brainstorm in groups of four
or more and agree on the purpose of the new invention. You are creating
a whole new device or use for your object, try to be as creative as possible!
-
Next, take several
pictures of your object with a digital camera. Let every group member have
a chance to use the Digital Camera. Make sure that your teacher has introduced
you to the function of a digital camera. Your teacher will distribute 3
1/2 floppy disks that records the pictures and will discuss how to use
digital cameras and Netscape in the computer lab or class. If there are
no digital cameras, your teacher will help you scan the pictures and bring
them up on your computer. After getting the picture onto the computer you
may adjust you picture with ADOBE
PHOTOSHOP (click here for help) any way you like, to be bigger, smaller,
to crop, etc. Go to web site help below if trouble persists.
-
Now, it is time
to put all the information on a web page. If there are enough computers
each student will make their own web page. However, if there aren't enough
computers for each student, groups of no more than four can be a team to
create the web page. Using Netscape Composer
(help at HINTS
below), create a web page in the form of a Newspaper Article. Make
up a background story to go along with your invention. You will share your
inventions with the class and then present your web page as well...EXCITEMENT!!!
There is a template that you will use here
is the site...TEMPLATE.
When you are in the template you will use the Example Page to write the
invention article and insert images to your delight. When you are putting
information in the web page it is important that you are in the Edit Page
mode, that means that you click file and go to Edit Page. There is where
you can make your changes. (go to web site help below if struggling).
******When
you are working try to get as as many images as you can on the page other
than the pictures that you took. You can find images on Google.com
images. ***IMPORTANT*** If you take images from Google make sure that
you cite the address that the image came from like this...
< insert image
www.dnr.state.mn.us/ebm/ <insert
the address that you found the image, this is called citing
HOW TO INSERT
IMAGES IS FOUND ON WEB SITE BELOW
-
After you finish
your Web page you will present the web page to the class explaining the
invention article that you created. Your classmates will write a response
to your web page and explain three things that they enjoyed about the web
site and three things that could use some improvement.
*When presenting use an overhead computer
projector or sit by a computer that students can
gather around if there is no projector.
