Spelling Assessments
and Word Study Lesson

A Spelling Assessment is given to a student using a pre-set list of words that represents a certain reading level.  Based on the number of correct words, the student is placed on an Instructional Reading/Spelling Level which represents where that child will be challenged by the work, yet can succeed with some effort.  From the Spelling Assessment, a Word Study Lesson can be planned that focuses on the student's areas of weakness.  In this case, the child is in the Syllable Juncture Stage, which includes "doubling" and adding either an "-el" or "-le" at the end of the word.  Two Word Sorts were designed and two word games were also selected as part of this lesson.
