Copyright Policy Discussion Handout

In class on Monday, our teacher presented through power point. The presentation was about Copyright Laws and Fair Use Policy: What we need to know as a future teacher. It went on to talk about what copyright is. It is the right an author has to completely control his/her work. It covers published and unpublished works, whatever the form of expression. We learned that just because something is on the Internet does not mean it is public domain. Public domain means that there is no cost on it and anyone can copy it. It is not legal to copy text or scan photos from the Internet unless the copyright is no longer in effect or it is covered under fair use policy. Fair Use Policy says you may use a portion of a copyrighted work in its original form? not changed and with the permission of the author if and when it is used for news reporting or research and education.
