Come on Rain

Just Juice:  Students can create an alphabet flip book like the one within the story.  They can use it to help a reading buddy improve their reading skills.

The Music of Dolphins: Write a newspaper article as if they were reporting on Mila at the time she was discovered.

Out of the Dust

Phoenix Rising:  Have students imagine that they are a reporter for the Daily Times.  They have been asked to write a story about what happened to a nuclear power plant in Pennsylvania (Three Mile Island) twenty years ago.  Write about what happened at the plant, what people thought about it then and now, and find anything that would be of any interest to the people of your community.  Students should work in groups and the reporting should be divided among the members of the group.  An example, of the division could be for one to look up the information, look up pictures that can be copied, and one to pick out the information that will be important for the article.  The group will write a story from the information found.

Sable:  Have students write a story about their favorite pet and any mischief their pets may have caused.  Another prompt could be: "If your pet could talk, how would it describe you and your family."

A Time of Angels:  Pick a character from the book and do a character journal throughout the book.
