CHARACTER SKETCHER

The job of the Character Sketcher is to sketch the raccoon character. The character sketch has to include the following: at least two implied character traits that display the action of the character in the reading; an explanation of each trait; identification of the character's goal, problem, and the possible solution. 
 
 

Discussion Director

The job of the Discussion Director is to ask the other members of the group questions that make them think about what they have read. The Discussion Director needs to write down the question, the answer to the question, and the page and paragraph of the book where the answer can be found (if possible). The Discussion Director should come up with five meaningful questions to ask the group. You need to ask the following types of questions:

1 Cause/Effect questions

1 Genre Question

1 "Thinking" question on your own 

1 Main Idea Question

1 Point of View Question
 

Passage Picker

The job of the passage picker is to pick out passages from the book that are important to the reading and are worth talking about. The Passage Picker should write down the page and paragraph number where the passage can be found. The Passage Picker should pick out 4 passages that show the following:

Word Wizard

The job of the word wizard is to teach the other member's of the group the meaning of words in the book. These vocabulary words are words that you may not know, but are important to the reading. Complete the word wizard sheet for the following words:

cavernous: page 25, paragraph 1

streamliner: page 25, paragraph 4

willows: page 22, paragraph 2
 
 

Investigator

The job of the investigator is to search other sources such as the encyclopedia, Internet, newspaper, etc. for connections to the reading and to share these ideas with the group. The Investigator needs to cite where the information was found. The Investigator should choose one of the animals that is in this section of the book and research it. Find out what the animal's habitat is- be able to explain its surroundings, what it likes to eat, etc. Explain what would happen if a bulldozer came and destroyed it's habitat.
