About Me

Hello, my name is Katy Dellinger and I am Exceptional Children's Teacher at Lincolnton Middle School.  I teach seventh grade Math and Language Arts.  I teach both Resource and Inclusion classes.  This is my third year teaching, and I am currently completing my Master's Degree in Reading Education from Appalachian State University.

I also completed my undergraduate degree in May of 2008 at Appalachian State University where I received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education, General Curriculum K-12.

I became inspired to pursue a Master's Degree in Reading Education after taking many reading courses throughout my undergrad career.  During the spring of 2007, I was a tutor for the ASU Reading Clinic under the supervision of Devery Mock Ward.  In this clinic, I assisted a second grade student twice a week with the use of an intense reading program.  My interest in reading sparked after being instructed by Dr. Mock and then given all of the strategies needed to help a student with their reading skills.

I moved back home to Maiden, North Carolina after graduation and accepted a teaching job at Lincolnton Middle School.  After my first year of teaching, I was still concerned with the needs of the special needs population in my classroom and their reading disabilities.  Therefore, I decided to apply to the Reading Program and enroll for the following fall.  I began grad school in fall of 2009.

I have had such a great experience with all of my classes and professors.  I have learned strategies and interventions for struggling readers that will help me in the future.  I hope that I can use everything that I have learned to improve the learning of students with special needs.

Not only have I increased my knowledge in reading, but I have also formed many new friendships that I know will continue to last throughout my life.  This program has impacted me in more than one way!
