About Me
I
am a Reading Specialist and Title I
Coordinator at Cornatzer Elementary School
in Mocksville, NC
(Davie County).
I instruct students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each day I teach eleven small groups for 25
to 30 minutes each and supervise a 30-minute remediation clinic. My Title I duties include Family Involvement
Events, keeping a Title I Notebook, and completing the school Title I
application.
My
career in education
began as a teacher assistant at Cornatzer Elementary.
As an assistant, I enjoyed working with
children and teaching in small groups. I
went back to school and earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary
Education
from Gardner-Webb
University. The following summer, I did not have a job
offer. The week before school started,
God opened a door. Pinebrook Elementary,
a school in my county, had a temporary opening for a reading teacher. It was only a one-year position, but I
readily accepted the job.
During
this year,
I fell in love with teaching students how to read.
The position was very challenging, but also
very rewarding. I needed to further my
education so that I could be a better instructor. I
began making plans to become a reading
teacher. I received my reading
certification to teach in Title I schools and I enrolled in the Reading
Education Graduate Program through Appalachian State University. I went through the next summer without being
offered a job. Again, the week before
school started a position opened for a reading teacher and Title I
coordinator
at Cornatzer Elementary. This time I got
a contract. For me, this was the ideal
teaching job.
My
husband’s name
is Ronnie and we have four daughters.
One daughter is married, and we have a grandson.
I enjoy spending time with my family: having
meals, going places, playing games,
and simply being together. My husband is
really good to me and helps in the kitchen since I’ve started
back to school
again. My whole family has been very
supportive of me while I’ve been in grad school, and I could not
have accomplished
this goal without their help and encouragement.
