DRTA Assignment
Directed Reading Thinking Activity (DRTA) is an effective lesson structure for directed reading lessons. It is designed to be used with individuals or small groups of children. The teacher directs the students' reading and thinking by a series of focused questions asked during breaks in the text (in between sections of a text that students are reading, usually silently). It can be used when students are reading aloud.
The assignment has several parts to it. First, examine the links to DRTA lessons before coming to class.
Next, you should read the DRTA Research article and use the DRTA study guide to post a response to your blog. In class, your instructors will model a DRTA lesson with you. Then you will be asked to plan a DRTA lesson for one of the chapters in Frog and Toad. You will type this lesson, following the example given in class, and bring it to the next class to conduct a DRTA lesson. After conducting the lesson, you may revise and edit your DRTA lesson and post it to your blog.
