Overview: The students will
be given an everyday item that they will use in order to create a new invention.
They will name and describe this invention.
They will work in partners and write a newspaper article about their new
invention. The students will take pictures of how the invention is
to be used. They will then create their own web page that will describe
their new creation.

Zip Disk for each child
Process:
1. Name and figure out what the
invention is going to be.
2. After figuring out the invention
the student and their partner will together write a newspaper article describing
their new invention.
3. After writing the article the
students will then be allowed to use the digital camera and take pictures
of how the invention is to be used.
4. The students will be given a
day to go to the computer lab and there they will be instructed on how
to use Adobe

the computer.
5. After the pictures have been
downloaded the students will then want to save them on to a zip disk, preferably

6. The students will then open
up Netscape
Composer and begin developing their own web page about their invention.

the students will be learning how to work Netscape
Composer.
8. Make sure that any information
used is correctly work sited.
9. Make sure both students' names
and emails are on the web page in order for you to give them feedback.
Suggestions: Have the kids pick their own partners at first and then if you see a problem with their choice then make changes as needed. Kids work better, I believe if they get along with his or her partner. If at all possible try to reserve the computer lab for at least two days. If computers are limited have a scheduled time in which each group can work on their projects. Have the groups work in shifts. A few can take pictures while others are typing and writing their articles, others could be working on web pages.
Note: Make sure to receive every childs email address in order for you to give the students feedback on their progress.
Make sure to let kids know that questions can always be asked. Also, give the students your email address as well if they have a question outside of class, they can reach you. Always keep the line of communication open.
Teachers please remember for our children that have special needs there is software and computer accessories available for assistance. For example, there are settings that may be changed in order for visually impaired students to see the screen more clearly. You can also go to settings to change the mouse setting in order for students to use the keypad.
