  • Social Studies Unit Plan
  • This is a social studies unit plan that focuses on the different regions of North Carolina and a famous person or place from each region.
  • This unit integrates technology into the social studies curriculum in week two day two through internet exploration. Students are organized into groups for cooperative learning and to make classroom management easier (12.5). Student learning is facilitated through the use of a C-SPAN broadcast featuring the mayor of Raleigh, in week two day four (12.6). The lesson plan for week two day two, Explore the Capitol, is a virtual tour of RAleigh that was created around the North Carolina Computer Skills Curriculum (10.4). While students are taking the virtual tour the teacher has the opportunity to assist each group and assess their ability to use the internet (10.5). This project meets grade four NC Computer Skills objectives 2.1 (Use technology tools to collect, analyze an display data) and 3.5 (Evaluate information found via telecommunications for content and usefulness) (10.1). In the Explore the Capitol lesson plan, after students work in groups to collect their information, they will have the opportunity to present their findings to the class (12.6).
