Artifact 2:  Powerpoint Presentation on Barbara Robinson
Powerpoint Presentation (this link will open directly into Powerpoint)
Barbara Robinson is one author which I particularly enjoy sharing with my students.  She provides literature which students can relate to and relishes the opportunity to hear from the students.  Many authors are studied throughout the year and this is one form of presentation that I use.

Context:
The slide presentation that I have included serves as an introduction to an author study on Barbara Robinson.  My students are able to view the presentation and see what the author was like growing up, likes and dislikes, and a bibliography of works in this multimedia presentation.

Impact:
Students benefit from this type of information by understanding the backgrounds of authors.  It is important for children to understand that authors are just like us:  there may even be a future book author in our presence! Providing background information on authors allows students to create a connection or relation to this person.  In addition, the multimedia presentation offers children an alternative type of presentation from which they are used to experiencing at school.  I strive to use technology in my classroom and create an emphasis of the importance of technology, especially for exceptional children.

Competency Goal 4 of the K-5 English Language Arts Standard Course of Study is met.  It states that the learner will apply strategies and skills to create oral, written, or visual texts.

Alignment:
Standard Two- Teachers know the subjects they teach and how to teach those subjects to students.
This multimedia presentation is one method to create multiple paths of learning to students and allows for use of technology in the classroom.

Standard Three-Teachers are responsible for managing and monitoring student learning.
The presentation demonstrated a command of a range of generic instructional techniques and the ability to implement them when introducing an author to students.
