Context This study was performed during my pre-service training for my Curriculum and Instruction course and I found my data during my internship with Bethel School. Impact This study allowed me to look at different ways of managing a classroom involving the environment of the classroom, discipline techniques, and the way the classroom is run day to day. By doing this study I was forced to think about how I would like to have my future classroom set up and how I could accommodate the different needs in my classroom from behavior problems to special needs students. I also learned different techniques in making sure the whole class can learn and feel safe. By studying two students with behavioral problems I learned how a teacher might deal with these situations and help these students. From observing my teacher and student teacher I have learned many unique ways of managing a classroom both successfully and appropriately. Alignment During this study I was required to make a sketch
of how I would organize my future classroom. My drawing of the physical
setting of my classroom shows that I realize the importance of the setting
of the classroom and how the setting will help facilitate active, collaborative
work from my students (Tech Comp. 12.4).
My physical setting drawing also shows how I can make sure that all of
my students have equal access to the computers in the room and within my
study I made a computer sign in/sign out sheet so everyone has the opportunity
to use the computers (Tech Comp. 14.2).
To help me manage and support learning for children in my classroom with
special needs I accessed the site http://www.pat.org (Tech
Comp. 13.2) to find out the services and resources available to meet
diverse learning needs through technology (Tech
Comp. 13.4). This study also helped me create the appropriate
learning environment for my students where positive social interaction,
active engagement learning, and self-motivation can occur because a learning
environment has been established, classroom routines have been established
and there is a an understanding of different behavioral problems in the
classroom and how to deal with these students (INTASC
#5).
