Textbook Evaluation:

This is a comparative analysis on two 3rd grade level textbooks.

Context:

This is a comparative analysis project that I did in my social studies methods class during my block my senior year at Appalachian State University.  This analysis compares two third grade level text books by two different publishing companies.

Impact:

This project allowed me to become more familiar with the third grade social studies curriculum and I became informed on how each textbook contains completely different material for the same grade level.  The project made me aware of how crucial it is for the teacher to know and learn the material that is in the textbook and also how the teacher may have to alter his/her lesson plans according to the NC curriculum and the way the textbook is laid out.

Alignment:

The textbook comparative analysis project allowed me to evaluate each book and to determine the accuracy and recency of the material in each textbook to make sure it is suitable for the classroom (Tech. Comp. II C).
This project familiarized me with the knowledge of the third grade social studies curriculum and provided me with information on how to instruct my lesson plans according to the textbook (INTASC 7).  As a learner and future teacher, I was encouraged to evaluate the textbooks that I could possibly be using in my classroom.  This informed me of the actual material that I might be teaching to my students and this introduced me to an evaluation that I will possibly continue to do throughout my teaching career (INTASC 9).
