Integrated Unit Plan

This is a Social Studies Unit Plan designed for sixth graders.  In our Unit Plan, three others and I created a four week study of European and Russian folk tales, integrating other subjects from the curriculum such as science, bi-lingual literature, geography, art, and home economics.  Technology is incorporated through several lessons which involve the computers that are accessible to our students in the classroom.  One example of an activity that features technology in the discipline/subject for learning is researching topics for projects with informational software that is available to the student.  An additional lesson found within the unit has the student searching the World Wide Web for bi-lingual web sites in their studies of Spain and Germany (11.1) (13.3). Within this Unit Plan, we have a lesson in which students are assessed on their knowledge of the use of computers through our accessing and using the Computer Skills Curriculum to be able to identify what the students should know and be able to perform (10.1) (10.5).  We designed activities for this Unit Plan such as referencing appropriate web sources and word processing that correlate computer skills with our other curricular objectives (10.4).  In another lesson, students will also be using the internet as one of several methods of research to locate information for presentations (12.1).  In this activity, students will be expected to become knowledgeable of the social, legal, and ethical issues that are involved with using the internet through citations of their sources (14.3).  Also contained within this Unit Plan is a layout of the groupings for some of the class assignments (12.5).
