Home Page | The media literacy webpage includes a lesson plan for teaching a second- third grade class how to create a newspaper. The lesson includes detailed guidelines, materials, and instructions for teachers. The lesson is designed to also focus on writing skills of both grade levels (11.1).The newspaper is used to show the children the way a newspaper is put together and to help the children place their own pictures and writings(11.2). The students will decide what order the newspaper should be in and it will be bound by the teacher. The newspapers will then be presented to the whole class so that all the children get to see their peers work.(11.4) This media project is accompanied by the objectives for computer use and literacy. The newspaper is used basically to meet the teaching goals for some computer and literacy competency goals(12.7). Specifically this lesson meets Competnecy goal 2.10 for the third grade. This lesson could also be used to meet Competency goal 1.4 for the first grade because we have the websites for the newspapers to be used so the information gathered is current (10.1).By having the children observe the information gathered from the internet the children are better able to complete their newspaper. Since the childrne use the newspaper section from the internet or an actual newspaper their newspaper should have less mistakes.(12.1) |
