Social Studies Unit Plan
Our Social Studies Unit called for an expansive unit to be created for the fourth grade curriculum. In doing so, we created lesson plans for integrated lessons teaching about the four geographic regions within North Carolina.  During the week on the Mountain region, I designed a lesson plan which involved the Internet and word processing in order to teach a lesson on the environment of the mountains.  This lesson integrated art, writing, and computer skills so that each student searched the internet to find a designated site, copy a free picture from that site, paste it into a word document, and to write a brief paragraph describing the components of the picture in the word document and then save and print their work (11.1).  The students then used their work to create a replica of the picture using a pencil sketch and then a chalk drawing.
Another lesson within our unit was on state government, included in the week we studied the coastal plains.  During this lesson, we captured a segment from C-Span which we implemented into our lesson by showing it in the class where we discussed and performed an activity that centered on the governor (12.6).  This also demonstrates using school television resources in order to assist in creating a better lesson for students (10.2).
