Alignment to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study

The time travel concept of this unit allows for easy integration across the curriculum.  In several subjects, the information provided in these novels can be useful and instructional.

ART:    In art, the students could create collages or paintings of their favorite time period from the different stories they read.

LANGUAGE ARTS:  The students could create their own stories about a time period they read about or research one of their own choosing and create a story.

SOCIAL STUDIES:   The students could do more indepth research on either one of the time periods or a historical figure that was presented in the unit.

This unit is also very easy to adapt for the special needs children in your classroom.

The assignment roles can be enlarged to allow for students to write on the actual worksheet instead of having to copy onto their own paper.

Special books can be purchased in some cases for ESL students.

Also audio books can be used, if audio books can not be purchased, the teacher can create her own tape of the novel.

In all these situations, the roles could be shortened and the sections could contain fewer pages.
