This literature unit plan consists of 11 days for fifth grade students.
The first day would entail modeling the various jobs (discussion director,
passage picker, etc.), using Song of the Trees by Mildred Taylor.
The second day we would use the launch activity. The next eight days
would involve the lessons on the different reading level books. The
students would be placed into groups based on their reading levels, and
books have been selected accordingly. The books are divided into
eight sections for each reading level, except for the highest reading level,
which has nine sections. The last day would be a closure activity.
Competencies in the NC Standard Course of Study will be met in the following
areas: Computer/Technology, English Language Arts, and Social Studies.
In this unit, we considered diverse learners in the classroom by making
appropriate modifications.
