Artifact One:  This artifact focuses on bridging the home/school connection by involving parents in Family Literacy activities throughout the school year.

Context:  This artifact was created for RE 5140, the Advanced Study of Children's Literature.  I researched the latest techniques to show the importance of Family Literacy within education.  Parental involvement is an essential tool in bridging the connection between home and school.  During my teaching career, I have experienced the many rewards of having active parents involved in their child's education.  Parents are encouraged to visit my classroom and attend parent workshops.  The workshop sessions that I have conducted are to help parents feel more confident when helping their children at home.  For literacy to be most effective, parents must play a vital role within their child's education.
