Classroom
Climate and Environment
CONTEXT: In a curriculum and instruction course at Appalachian State University, instructed by Pam Schram, I completed a Classroom Climate and Environment assignment. IMPACT: I incorporated my teaching philosophy and leadership style into the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment. I mentioned that I would like to establish an environment in which all students belong to the classroom family and are connected through common experiences. As an aspect of the Classroom Climate and Environment assignment, I also considered ways in which students could share technology resources and materials within the context of learning. ALIGNMENT: The Classroom Climate and
Environment assignment satisfies goal IID of the National Educational Technology
Standards for Teachers, as well as INTASC Standard V. The Classroom
Climate and Environment assignment illustrates my methods for managing
technology resources in my classroom, such as through encouraging students
to share computers and other technological tools. In the learning
environment, which is based upon the ideas of inclusion and sharing, students
in my classroom will be expected to take turns and share technology resources
at computer, music, and listening stations. Sign up sheets to assist
in managing the sharing of technology resources will be used in my classroom
(IID). By describing the community of learners’ environment that
I plan to set up in my classroom, I exhibited my intentions of establishing
clear procedures and expectations that will allow the classroom to become
a family-like environment. In the Classroom Climate and Environment
assignment, I outlined specific plans for building a collaborative learning
community, such as by seating students at tables, posting a list of classroom
expectations, establishing student jobs, conducting class meetings, and
designating a whole class reading time for each day (INTASC V).
