Math Lesson

CONTEXT: I prepared a math lesson during my internship at Crossnore Elemenary School in Crossnore, North Carolina.  This was completed for a math methods class under the supervision of Dr. Pam Schram.

IMPACT: I prepared and then presented this lesson in the fifth grade class at Crossnore Elementary School.  By completing this assignment, I gained more practice compiling relevant activities that correlate to the North Carolina Standard Course of Study objectives for fifth grade math.  This will help me when I prepare for organizing lessons when I have my own classroom.  This lesson allows students to utilize basic technological tools like calculators as they work in small teams.

ALIGNMENT: This math lesson meets goal IIE and VIE of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.  I used the Mailbox Magazine's "Math Games" and the North Carolina Standard Course of Study website to find out what fifth grade students are supposed to be able to do.  Then I formed my lesson around those things (IIE).  I suggested that teachers have an ample supply of calculators, one per group of two, in order to facilitate equitable access to technology resources (VIE).
