Children's Literature Database

CONTEXT:  I contributed information to a Children’s Literature Database as an assignment for a Language and Literacy in the Elementary School course at Appalachian State University, under the guidance of Beth Frye.

IMPACT:  After reading twenty children’s books, I entered book summaries and instructional ideas on an Appalachian State University Children’s Literature database.  My book reviews can assist teachers worldwide in creating lesson plans, and I can benefit from the reviews of others as well.  I can tap into a wealth of information on books and lessons by accessing the database.  This will help me with developing and planning a variety of activities for the students in my classroom.

ALIGNMENT:  The Children’s Literature Database assignment meets goal VC of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.  By accessing the database and using the provided information on children’s books, I show how the use of technology can be used to make my job easier.  For example, by reading book summaries and lesson ideas that are posted in the database, I demonstrate a way in which technology can help teachers with managing time as well as by increasing productivity (VC).
