Newsletter

CONTEXT:  I designed a newsletter as an assignment for an instruction and curriculum course at Appalachian State University, under the guidance of Pam Schram.

IMPACT:  By designing a newsletter to introduce myself to students and parents of the classroom in which I interned at Crossnore Elementary School in Crossnore, North Carolina, I learned the value of using technology as a communication tool.  In the newsletter, I included information on my family and previous classroom experiences.  Through this newsletter project, I decided that I will use newsletters in my classroom to introduce myself at the beginning of the school year and/or to inform students and parents of assignments, assemblies, fieldtrips, as well as other special events and activities.

ALIGNMENT:  The newsletter assignment satisfies goal VD of the National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, as well as INTASC Standard X.  By using Microsoft Word and a clip art program to create the newsletter, I showed that I can successfully use technology to communicate and collaborate with peers, students, and parents (VD).  Since the newsletter served as a way for me to introduce and describe myself to others, I also showed my desire to establish cooperative partnerships with students and parents.  Furthermore, by using a newsletter to share personal and professional information, I exhibited my interest in establishing a productive and open learning environment (INTASC X).
