This website is owned and maintained by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Teachers can access resources, lessons, and activities for teaching mathematics, as well as information on professional conferences.

Context

During my senior year at Appalachian State University in the fall of 2002, I found this website to be a valuable tool for teaching math.

Impact

The NCTM website will provide me with continual insight into teaching mathematics. It will serve as a reference for updated information in the mathematical field. I will access this website to search for appropriate and creative math lesson plans and activities. I would also use it to access the Principles and Standards of School Mathematics. The NCTM website encourages the application of technology to enhance professional practice among teachers of mathematics.

Alignment

This website allows me to develop professionally by giving me access to quality activities. The website is updated frequently, so I will have access to the most current information on teaching math. I want to teach Math in the manner that it is most beneficial to the students. As research for this continually emerges, I want to reflect on how the new techniques will benefit or not benefit my students. I can continue to develop professionally as a teacher by staying connected to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics web page (Technology Competency V A). I will also use the Principles and Standards of School Mathematics to guide and improve my mathematics program. "The mission of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is to provide the vision and leadership necessary to ensure a mathematics education of the highest quality for all students."
