The
Social Studies Unit Plan is a fourth grade unit on the regions of North
Carolina. The unit plan is divided into four areas of focus on the
regions of North Carolina and influential people of each area. The
unit includes an internet scavenger hunt that involves interaction and
use of technology and computer skills. This will require students
to locate and analyze the information on the internet, and then relate
the information to the subject matter through a multimedia presentation
(12.1).
The unit also includes a computer skills assessment through a scavenger
hunt and through an end of unit exam which contains examples from the North
Carolina computer skills assessments (10.5).
A discussion and explanation of network security and acceptable use policy
will also be included into the computer skills training. A list of
rules for using the internet is included as well (14.1).
This process will equip students with valuable information about social,
legal, and ethical issues related to technology use (14.3).
This Social Studies Unit will also address the increasing Hispanic population
in areas of North Carolina through a diverse learners lesson on demographics
of the mountains of North Carolina. The lesson contains information
that was found through appropriate local, state, and national services
or resources to meet diverse learning needs through technology (13.4).
Included into the unit is a bi-lingual
software called "Kid Pix" which can be used to support children whose primary
language is not English (13.3). This
software will also use media and technology
to support learning for children with special needs (13.2).
