The Newsletter is a communication tool. It is a medium that provides a way to communicate information to parents about what is happening in their child’s classroom.
Context
I created this newsletter in Microsoft Publisher during my block at
Appalachian State University. The newsletter is a communication tool
that can be used by teachers to inform parents of new information and upcoming
events. It provides a way to keep parents up-to-date with the activities
that are taking place within the classroom. The newsletter serves
the purpose of introducing the teacher to the parents. This newsletter
I created provides an opportunity for me to let parents know a little about
my goals and myself for the semester as an intern at Beech Mountain Elementary
School. I inserted an image of myself that was taken with a digital
camera. This will help the parents identify me upon our first meeting.
Impact
This newsletter could be used to communicate information between teachers
and parents. Since the newsletters are transported to the parents,
through the students, I would briefly go over the information with the
students. The newsletter is a communication tool that will benefit
not only teachers and parents, but students, as well.
Alignment
This newsletter provides a way to make students and parents aware of
new and pertinent information and upcoming events (Tech.
Competency 12.3). I will send this newsletter home to parents
prior to my fulltime internship at Beech Mountain. It will provide
an opportunity for me to introduce myself to the parents and inform them
of the plans I have and the goals I hope to meet during my internship.
I hope to send newsletters home monthly to create an awareness of classroom
events and to foster a relationship with parents that will increase parental
support and interaction. The newsletter will create a stronger relationship
between the parents and myself. This growing relationship will work
to support and encourage students in their lives at school and at home
(INTASC 10).
