PowerPoint Presentation was created to be presented as a model at a school’s open house, in order to provide students and parents with information that would be helpful in their preparation for beginning a new school year.

Context
This PowerPoint presentation was created using Office 2000 Microsoft PowerPoint software.  I worked in a group to complete this project for my Foundations 3100 class at Appalachian State University.  My group and I used the Internet to access information concerning the second grade curriculum.  Clip art pictures, animation, and sounds, also from the Internet, were inserted to compliment the issues addressed, and make the slide show more unique and appealing to students.  We inserted a hyperlink to the Discovery Place, which can be visited at http://www.discoveryplace.org/.  The student would visit the Discovery Place on a field trip, so this hyperlink would inform parents and students of the various concepts of the educational attraction.

Impact
The PowerPoint presentation aided my group in learning about computer software that was new to us, presenting information to the class concerning the second grade curriculum, and providing an artifact that we can revise and use in our own classrooms.  The slide show presentation benefited my class and would benefit the parents and students that may attend an open house at the beginning of a new school year.  It would provide them with information that would be necessary for them to know for the up coming year.  Using this program has increased my awareness of different ways to use technology to communicate information.  This project has taught me valuable information concerning organizing and communicating information using technology.

Alignment
We used a digital cameral to take a picture of our group.  We chose to use this medium as it portrays an accurate representation of our group.  This photo will help students and parents recognize us. We then imported the photo from a floppy disk to our PowerPoint software (Tech. Competency 11.2).  During the presentation, we used a Touch Screen and a Gyro Mouse.  This advanced, wireless technology is very convenient, as it allows you to move freely around the room to keep students on task or attend to any students individually.  We used a Sony LCD Data Projector that was ceiling mounted to project to a large screen (Tech. Competency 12.6).  The Sony LCD Data Projector and the large screen provided a display of the information on a much larger scale.  This is a wonderful provision for students with vision problems.  The wall mounted speakers provided auditory accompaniment to the visually stimulating presentation.  The speakers are an asset in a classroom, as they are located around the room, providing a surround sound source of audio as opposed to a direct source, and the loudness of the speakers can be adjusted  to assist the hearing impaired (Tech. Competency 13.2).  The PowerPoint presentation allows the teacher to communicate verbally and nonverbally using media.  This promotes interaction and participation between the teacher and the student audience (INTASC 6).  The PowerPoint presentation provides a way to present information in a nontraditional format.  Rather than a monotonous lecture, this presentation fostered a display of the information that was aesthetically pleasing and well organized.  The discipline that this presentation focuses on is Media and Technology, as the information is successfully communicated to an audience, including special needs learners, through technological resources (Tech. Competency 11.4).
