Using computers to aid ESL students is used to demonstrate how the needs of ESL students can be met thorough computer usage.

Context
I used the Internet in my Foundations 3100 class at Appalachian State University to search for ways to meet the needs of diverse learners, such as those who do not speak English.  I located a feature on the Yahoo! search engine main web page that allows you to change the language in which the information is presented.  I also visited englishlearner.com, which is useful in assisting the teaching and learning of English as a foreign or second language.

Impact
The language change feature can be a valuable tool in a classroom with an ESL student.  This option is very helpful in educating people of all ages when their ability to learn is limited by the language they speak.  The activities on englishlearner.com help raise awareness for the use of different languages, describe methods to sue in teaching tasks such as writing, speaking, and giving directions in another language, and are appropriate for teachers and students.

Alignment
The language option on the Yahoo! main web page is an example of a way to use technology to support the needs of children for whom English is a second language.  It is a valuable asset to both teachers and students (Tech. Competency 13.3).
