Textbook Analysis

Context

This project was created in a social studies method course in Block 436 at Appalachian State University.  Under the instruction of Betty Dishman we wrote a comparison analysis paper on two teacher textbooks written by two different companies.

Impact

This project will help me become familiar with the kindergarten curriculum.  Looking at both books and comparing them, made me realize how very different resources are and that there are many types of textbooks.  I also noticed how important it is for a teacher to be able to follow the format of the textbook and how challenging it could become if the format doesn't fit the teacher's desires.

Alignment

This project allows you to learn how to locate the many different resources that are available, as well as learning to evaluate and look at what is and isn't available in each of the resources.  As a teacher we have to think of the effectiveness of each of the resources and conclude on the style that best fits us individually (Tech II C).  It is important for the instructor to think about each student in the class and consider the yearly and daily goals to formulate instructional plans that best fits the students and the curriculum. (INTASC 7).
The teacher will evaluate and modify their lessons based on experience and ideas that they come across with experience.  It is important while teaching to be open for ideas that will help them grow professionally.  While evaluating others work in textbooks, teachers are able to notice what they like and what they can add to make their lessons more effective. (INTASC 9).
